The Boiler Service Tantrum

March 3rd 2010 in Misc, Rants

Living with people can be really annoying, but it’s even more annoying when you live with people who are constantly whining over stuff that’s got nothing to do with you – like the fact that they spent all day waiting in for the boiler service guy to turn up. Last time I checked, I wasn’t the boiler service bloke, but somehow it’s my fault that he didn’t turn up till 4.30.

My flatmate was even less impressed by the fact that this particular piece of work took about five minutes; the amount of times in the time it took me to dump my bag and head into the bathroom that I heard about that was absolutely staggering. I’m not opposed to getting annoyed by having to wait in for something like that all day, but I am opposed to A) whinging at someone at length about it and B) whinging at them about it despite the fact that they had the day off and were determined to not do anything all day (in fact, she was still in her pyjamas when I got in).

It goes like this – I am waist deep in work both in the office and at home. I have hardly left my room in two weeks except to go to work or to get dragged out on blind dates, and the last thing I want to do when I walk in from work before I’ve even turned my computer on is spend time getting my ear bent about how long it took a boiler service guy to turn up and fix a problem that I had been too busy to even know existed.

Maybe this is the problem. I’m so busy it’s not even funny right now; I’m slammed at work and I have loads of projects going on at home as well, I just don’t have the time to get involved in what’s going on in my own home, let alone deal with it. Maybe I should cut back on the workload and spend more time with my flatmates and friends. Sadly, at the moment, I just don’t think that’s an option.
