Themed Parties are the New Black, Apparently

March 8th 2010 in Misc

I really wanted to have a weekend to just decompress, not see anyone and just get left the hell alone; unfortunately that never really happens. Some friends of mine decided on Friday evening that they were going to hold a gathering on Sunday afternoon, and that my presence was required. Sunday afternoon to me means barbeque (not in this weather, but you get the idea), films, a couple of beers and generally chilling out, nothing too strenuous. Certainly not murder mystery themed parties, but that’s exactly what this gathering turned out to be.

Picture the scene: Friday evening, just got back from the Friday post-work pub visit and I get a call telling me to come along and also that I have to get a costume befitting a helicopter pilot.

Seriously.

So after much hassle finding a place to get a ‘helicopter pilot’ outfit (which basically turned out to be a poncy jacket and a scarf), I went along on Sunday with my flatmates to this themed party of theirs and you know what? I had a great time. Murder mystery themed parties are basically just large-scale Cluedo, but for a lazy (if boozy) Sunday afternoon activity, they’re a great laugh.

The subsequent pub visit with us all in costume was a bit weird though.
